14. Impact of being in company of good people - SathSangam

Sri APN Swami quoted a Neethi Slokam by Bhartruhari on the impact of SathSangam & Acharya

— Bhartruhari in Neeti Shatakam

This verse shows how being with wise and virtuous people can transform our lives. It removes ignorance, encourages honesty, brings dignity, clears sins, gives peace of mind, and spreads our reputation. In short, good company can positively change every part of our life.

"It removes the dullness of the intellect and instills truthfulness in speech."
"It bestows dignity and removes sin."
"It brings peace to the mind and spreads one's fame in all directions."
"Tell me, what does the company of the good not accomplish for a person?"

Foolishness goes away, we learn to speak the truth, our fame grows, sins are removed, the mind becomes pure, and our good name spreads everywhere. All this happens through Satsangam—being in the company of good people.

13. Like how Brass makes more noise than Gold

13. Like how Brass makes more noise than Gold

A worthless / essence less object is often accompanied by great show and noise. Gold (स्वर्णं) does not produce as much sound as bronze (कांस्यम्) does.

Things that lack real value or substance often make a lot of noise and display.

In contrast, something truly valuable, like gold, remains silent and dignified, whereas cheaper metals like bronze produce loud sounds.

This can be applied to people as well—those with true wisdom and worth tend to be humble, while the less knowledgeable often seek attention.

This can be related to the saying, 'Empty vessels make more noise.
